Evonik produces Polyimide P84©NT and P84©UHT polymers of excellent thermal stability, which are used for challenging applications mostly in tribological contexts. Yet, since polyimides (PI) usually have no melting point, conventional processing methods such as extrusion or injection molding are not possible for this kind of material. This is why we count on the expertise and knowhow of DORST and are successfully developing in their Technology Center a procedure to press and sinter PI parts close to their final shape ("Direct forming"). Our customers in turn will benefit from detailed process recommendations that Evonik will be able to offer as well as from the experience in terms of plant dimensioning and mold making provided by DORST.
